‘Tis the season for longer nights and brighter lights. Although your days may be shorter, there is still a perfect opportunity for new experiences and classic winter activities whilst bundling up, sipping on hot chocolate and enjoying the outdoors. As Legal Direct offices are in Toronto and Ottawa we have the intel on some of the best places to visit this holiday season.

Must Do’s in Toronto

As one of the most diverse cities in the world, Toronto boasts over 140 neighbourhoods, each offering its own distinct style and atmosphere. But if you think you’ve seen it all, think again—each area takes on a whole new charm in the winter, giving the city a magical makeover.

We’ve compiled the top winter activities and places to see in the 6ix with a new frosty lens.

Historic Distillery District

The Distillery Winter village is on from November 13th to January 5, 2025 and is a fan-favourite for everybody in the city. The lights are exhilarating in the chilly air and the place embodies the Christmas spirit. This year, Toronto has introduced and boasts of the viral Yorkshire pudding wrap, dubbed the ‘Yorkie Burrito’; a burrito filled with beef, carrots, peas, potatoes and gravy into one awesome delight.

If you’re planning on shopping, there are so many quaint local stores to check-out including the Old Flame Brewing Co. one of the newest additions to the village. Cozy up for some live music and an amazing local brew, you’ll definitely have a great night here.

Trail Walks at Evergreen Brickworks

Come see the dazzling Evergreen Brickworks, a beautiful sight to see in the summer but also a gorgeous winter experience as well. They have a Saturday Farmers market as well that is open 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays and indoors so you can browse without fearing the chill.

If you’re more interested in night life, check-out the DJ Skate Nights on Saturdays throughout January and February in 2025 from 6-9 pm where you can pay what you wish. You can skate among the trees while listening to your favourite tunes and food (including ‘smores). There is also an Après Skate Lounge to warm up after skating and catch up with your friends and family.

Dazzling Lights at Casa Loma

Until January 4th, 2025 you can experience Christmas at the Castle with a wide range of activities and performances for the whole family. A 20ft tall tree will be decked out in the Great Hall as well as eight signature trees decorated by Canadian designers. You can also upgrade to Holiday Lights after 5:30 pm to witness the city’s only castle shining with spirit.

Must Do’s in Ottawa

In winter, Canada’s capital transforms into a festive wonderland with a host of special events. Ottawa’s cityscapes sparkle with thousands of twinkling lights, while holiday markets, seasonal entertainment, and delicious culinary offerings set the stage for a joyful celebration. From vibrant displays to charming festivities, the Ottawa region offers plenty of ways to get into the holiday spirit this year.

Heres some of our top holiday activities in Ottawa:
